Events in Corsica

 Combined with culture, music and traditional practices, various events take place throughout the year, such as parties, celebrations, commemorations and other events. During your stay you can, and should, enjoy some of the events that the island has to offer.

January 1st: Universal (national) Get-together

March 17th and 18th: Madunnuccia (location)

Party in honor of Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia, patron saint of Ajaccio. In the program: between faith and tradition, a great procession through the city streets, a show at the Hôtel de Ville and a pontifical mass.

May 1st: Labor Day (national)

On May 1st, it is customary to offer lilies of the valley to loved ones. On that day, the sidewalks are taken over by sellers of that flower!

May 8th: Victory Day (national)

Celebration of the Allied victory against Nazi Germany in May 1945. Several ceremonies are organized throughout the city.

June 21st: Music Festival (national)

Large popular festival that takes place in France, but also abroad, with several free concerts organized throughout Corsica.

July 14th: Bastille Day (national)

It commemorates at the same time the taking of the Bastille in 1789, which led to the fall of the absolute monarchy, and the end of the society of privilege. For that day, parades, concerts and balls are organized. As night falls, fireworks light up many of the Corsican towns and villages.

August 15th: Assumption Day (national)

This commemoration, still very popular in Corsica, includes processions and religious ceremonies.

November 11th: Remembrance Day (national)

Residents gather around monuments to the Dead to celebrate the signing of the 1918 Armistice, which ended World War I.

3rd weekend of September: European Heritage Days (national)

Organized in large cities, the European Heritage Days allow the general public to visit traditionally closed places: ministries, castles, museums, etc.

December 25th: Christmas (national)

December 31st: New Year's Eve (national)

The atmosphere on December 31st is festive and the residents of Ajaccio gather, as a family or among friends, to celebrate the coming year.
